about

Nostalgia is a modern folk tale told about transition and introduction.

lyrics

I arrived home at 1am
And entered in to leave again
In the living room a rocking chair
And sitting was Doom who then whispered,
“That watch tells time on your wrist when you
Take it off, time won’t exist”
“I don’t need advice,” in a sweat I say,
“But in case I do I might just stay”

So I put up tabs asking how to forget
Something I already know, someone I’ve hardly met
This week I’ll go to bed on time
Or take my watch off and wait for the shine
Where the sky and water finally meet
Two halves make whole but may not be complete

It’s not hard to believe that Grief comes easy
When I sit her down she gives a speech
Saying, “you know my name but not my last,
You talk about futures without the past.
From your memory may you find relief
For you are Grace and I am Grief
Please, remember me when you move too fast
There are answers in you nobody asked.”

So I put up tabs asking how to last
Beyond my lifetime and beyond my past
Who’s to tell me in a world so vast?
Well, shame and growth can coexist
The first is hot water and the next is mist
There are answers in you that you’ll never say
And things only you knew and that’s okay

If you wake each day to unraveled time
And always walking to the line
Where the sky find ground and there I’ve found ya
Each minute fades into nostalgia

Yes, Change arrives in symmetry
And she only speaks in poetry
Saying, “follow the rain, and the path it’s delivered
It will go down the drain, not to the river;
Though there’s a place that it’s meant to be
It will follow the gutter and purpose will fleet
Though there’s a place that it’s meant to be
It will follow the gutter and purpose will fleet
So I put up tabs asking what I’m meant for
And who I serve and who to mentor
If you can’t see ahead, then Doom will knock
As Grief is only but a sign of loss
If you still turn away, if you still digress
Then expect delays in your happiness
There are answers in you that you’ll wish you could say
And nothing you could do and no one you could save

If you wake each day with a taste in your mouth
In the back of your throat and it’s strong like sauerkraut
Then I’d advise to get some water in ya
Each minute fades into nostalgia

The swings are open during recess
And I just wanna play after being serious
Lets cut you a break, here I’ll cut one for ya
Each minute fades into nostalgia

I’m almost home at 1am
My spine is gone and my spirit phased
Perhaps you could if you’re there
Please greet me kindly in the rocking chair

about

Sove The Second Boise, Idaho

Sove The Second makes music for the overwhelmed, the deep feelers, and the overthinkers. She writes about entering other worlds on SSRIs, refusing to fall apart in your twenties, and eating Zots.

Combining rich instrumentation with folky riddles, Sove creates a poetic space that gestates curiosity. Her and her cello blend genres and apply classical concepts where they're not always considered.
